Check the route

Confirm an affidavit is required
Evaluate documented exemptions separately from public charge. A qualifying 40-quarter or INA 320 automatic-citizenship route requires actual evidence; adjustment requests the exemption in current I-485 Part 3.

Verify sponsor eligibility
Sponsor must meet age, status and U.S. domicile requirements. A joint sponsor supplements finances but does not cure an ineligible petitioner's age/status/domicile; the required petitioner affidavit remains necessary.
Assign each separate sponsor
Each joint sponsor files a separate I-864 and independently meets the threshold for their own household and assigned immigrants. A substitute sponsor requires a permitted relationship and a surviving-petition review.
